The Biggest Opportunity in your business might already be sitting in front of you.

When we think about "opportunities", we often look outward.

  • A new market
  • A new product
  • A new customer
  • A new technology.

But sometimes the biggest opportunities are much closer than we think.

They might be:

  • An existing customer who has more potential than we're currently unlocking
  • A relationship we've allowed to go cold
  • A team member whose strengths we're not fully using
  • A capability we've built but aren't taking to market
  • A technology that could fundamentally change how we sell
  • A question we're not asking because we've become comfortable with the current answer.

This is one of the reasons I like the O in SWOT. It forces you to stop and ask:

"What am I not seeing?"

That's a very different question from:

"What opportunities do I have?"

The first assumes there may be something you're missing.

As sales leaders, we're often so focused on hitting this month's number that we don't spend enough time looking at what could create next year's growth.

So here's a challenge:

Take 15 minutes this week and look at your business, your customers and your team through a different lens.

Ask yourself:

What opportunity is sitting right in front of me that I'm currently overlooking?

You might find the next big opportunity isn't somewhere else.

It might already be in your hands.
